Bradley University Climbing Wall Policies
A. Safety
- A Climbing Wall Staff member must be present in order for anyone to be climbing on the wall.
- Personal belongings must be in storage.
- Observers/non-climbers not allowed in the climbing area. Climbers and belayers only.
- Climbers must remove all jewelry, tie back long hair, and tuck in loose clothing.
- A shirt and climbing or gym shoes must be worn at all times in the gym. Bare feet, boots, or sandals not permitted.
- Do not walk, climb, or boulder under a climber.
- All climbers must be protected by a rope and belay system. Climbers are required to be protected by a top-rope belay unless lead certified.
- Climbing Wall Staff members can belay climbers as their schedule and attention allows.
- NO lead climbing without a lead-climbing tag. NO belaying without a belaying tag.
- Always double-check a belay system (including knot, rope, belay device, carabiner, and harnesses) before climbing.
- CLIMB WITH CAUTION AND AT YOUR OWN RISK.
B. Facility
- Food and beverages not allowed in the climbing area.
- Appropriate and safe behavior is expected. Inappropriate or unsafe behavior will be determined by the staff. Climbing Wall Staff reserve the right to deny access to anyone.
- There is a 20 minute time limit per rope when a climber is waiting.
- The adjustment or rearrangement of holds is prohibited except by qualified Staff members.
- EVERY climber and belayer must check in and take care of payment before entering the climbing area.
C. Equipment
- Socks must be worn with all rental shoes.
- Do not abuse equipment. This includes, but is not limited to, stepping on, throwing, or misusing any equipment.
- The use of chalk is limited to chalk balls or other confined chalk. Loose or colored chalk not permitted.
- A maximum of 3 ropes can be in use at any given time.
